“Not so very long ago, all people though that alcohol was a good thing at all times.  If a special effort were to be made, it was thought that the best preparation for it was to take a dose of alcohol. But we know now that it is not good.”  Pah!  We don't know any such thing!   The sparkle of champagne, the headiness of an exquisite red, the fiery crispness of vodka—why, they're the very elixir of life!  Nothing brings out one's joie de vivre better, and no one has the right to take it away. If those temperance groups insist on meddling in our nation's good cheer, then we'll make our own fun.  Bathtub gin, anyone?
